Welcome to Beta Tester training!
This first week, we're going to get to know each other, the technologies we're going to be using, as well as a discussion on metacognition.
Most simply, metacognition is thinking about thinking, reflecting on what we're learning and how we're learning it. It forces us to look at what we are learning in a different way and helps retain what you are trying to learn.
Why is this important for you, as beta-testers? You are being asked to critically consider an assignment, which is a practical application and expansion of the knowledge students have acquired during the semester. You need to practice metacognition during these evaluations, in order to understand what you are learning and how you are learning it.
First, we're going to be using Slack in order to have asynchronous discussions about our readings and activities. We will also be using Hypothes.is to annotated the readings we're going to be doing.
We'll practice our annotation skills this week on the following three articles, as well as address them in a discussion on Slack during the week:
Learning about metacognition won't just help you in your role as a beta-tester. This will help you in your own learning and education moving forward. So let's get started!
